MAGNET PROGRAM: ARTS & COMMUNICATION
Contact: Cathy Bacote, Assistant Principal of Instruction
Huntington Middle school boasts a magnificent Arts & Communications magnet program. Students with special interests in visual arts, photography, music, creative writing, and broadcasting/ communications can explore those interests while participating in the program. Students will be immersed in a culture that reflects the world of the arts, a culture that enhances the comprehensive curriculum and encourages creativity, hard work, self-discipline, and personal discovery.
In sixth grade each student will take an exploratory nine-week class in four of the five fine arts: general music, visual/arts/photography, or creative writing/communications. In seventh and eighth grade, students may select yearlong electives from the five fine arts. Band, chorus and orchestra are available for all grades.
Students in all areas of the arts and communications work together in showcase events (performances, productions, exhibitions, and recitals) to apply and demonstrate what they have learned. With our in-school state of the arts broadcasting studio, dark room, and music technology lab, students have to ability of expressing themselves that complements the core classroom and related arts instructional periods.
