Welcome to Huntington Middle School
Magnet Program
Huntington is an Arts and Communications Magnet school.
Distinctive Features:
- Participation in photography projects, including pinhole photography, photograms as well as film developing and black and white printing in a fully equipped darkroom
- Participation in the various roles required to create a previously recorded or live broadcast in a state-of-the-art television studio and chances to work with arts and communications professionals
- Opportunities to study ballet, modern jazz, multicultural and historical dance techniques in a fully equipped, professional dance studio
- Interdisciplinary units of study linking the arts and communications with fully integrated language arts, math, science, social studies and technology
- Use of developmental drama curriculum to reinforce core classroom learning
- Opportunities to write and produce scripts while learning basic stage design techniques

Huntington Teacher is Outstanding Economic Education
From the Daily Press: Making everyday life relevant to her economics students is how Huntington Middle School teacher Jan Cotmon makes a difference in the lives of others. Cotmon's work in making both economics and civics relevant has paid off for her as a teacher. Last month, she was named Economic Teacher of the Year by the Virginia Council on Economic Education.
Middle School Athletics
In the spring of last year, basketball was introduced into the Middle School Athletic Program as a pilot program. Due to the positive reaction and comments from the community, parents, staff and students, we are going to incorporate two new sports this year. More info...
